Of Break Ups & Rebound…
You hear about break ups and rebounds almost everyday. A rebound is when you prematurely get into a relationship after having broken up with your former partner. Thats the Indian definition. Coz I believe an american would go and have one or more one-night stands as a form of rebound.
There could be various explanations to why people get into rebound relationships. Maybe it is a pathetic attempt to mimic the level of comfort they had with their former partner. Or maybe it is just as a way to spite their ex.
Irrespective of the reason, getting into a “rebound relationship” is the worst thing one could possibly do. I am not saying one-night stands are healthy, they are not, but at least they don’t have such dire consequences. (Unless of course, if you knock a girl up during a one-night stint.)
But India being such a sexually oppressed place, we choose to get into a new full-fledged relationship to get over a messy break up. And a whole lot of mess entails.
Running into your soulmate in a rebound is a surreal scenario. It just never happens. So there you are, stuck with someone you don’t really like, usually for longer than you thought you’d be.
If it was vengeance you were after, well buddy, you just popped in a poison pil yourself and are now waiting for your ex to die. Spoiler Alert! It won't happen.
All you’d be doing is the dance of a doomed relationship, yet again. Its all gonna end up just like last time. Shouting and screaming at each other. Feeling trapped.
And what happens when you run into a girl you actually like, while you’re still with your rebound? Yup, that does happen. How do break it gently to her? Answer: You don’t. You either have another messy soul-wrenching break up or you start two-timing. And I don’t need to tell you ‘that is bad’. Very bad.
Hence a little advice to all the Indian guys who got dumped recently: Steer clear of that easy game, you are towards a rebound. And since this isn't the US, you’re not gonna get lucky tonight, instead you're gonna be unlucky for sometime to come.
Got it?
